Students attending any one or more classes on a regular basis can qualify to perform in CDA Dance Recital on Saturday, Aug 29th and Clifton Children's Festival on Sat, Sept 12th! Performances will include Singing/Voice, Duets, Group Choir, Theatre Skits & Improv, Comedy, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet & Tap. This is a one of a kind opportunity for your child to be involved with the arts in every capacity receiving fabulous life experiences! When Summer is over and the new school year begins, class days and times may change, but classes will continue throughout the new 2015-2016 school year.
6 - 7 AM - BEFORE CARE - $7.50 EVERY 15 MINUTES
7 - 10 AM - EXTENDED CARE STUDENT DROP OFF ...VARIOUS ACTIVITIES IE; READING, BOARD GAMES, FITNESS, AND MORE...
10 - 12 PM - SINGING...VOICE AND CHOIR (Taught by Dylan Walker who is an award winning singer, holding a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Christopher Newport University. He has several years of teaching experience, covering genres from Opera to Pop to Musical Theater.)

12:30 - 2:30 PM - ART....DRAW/SKETCH/CRAFTS (Draw/Sketch Taught by Jade Fiedkou-Leonard who is a local freelance/ commissioning artist who specializes in portraiture and mixed media work. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art and Visual Technology with a Concentration in Drawing from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA in 2011.)
2:30 - 4:30 PM - DRAMA... THEATRE/ ACTING/ MPROV (Taught by Lori Muhlstein and Mary-Anne Sullivan) ...
Lori Muhlstein has been involved in the local theatre scene for more than 25 years as performer, director, and teacher. Her performance experience covers the acting spectrum from comedy to drama and from scripted to improvisation. Lori has performed in and directed shows for children and is currently in rehearsal for "Once Upon a Time" with Mestey Film Productions that will perform at the Lorton Workhouse during the summer (this follows her successful run as Mrs. Claus in their production last Winter). She is a co-lead for a new improv troupe, the Stagecoach Bandits and performs with Stagecoach Theatre in their team building and wine tour murder mysteries. Over the last 4 years, she has taught numerous workshops and classes for children, teens, and adults specializing in improvisation and acting skills particularly in the area of character and scene development. Lori is also directing "The Meeting", produced by the Clifton Arts Council, that will run at the Clifton Town Hall later this summer. She is delighted to be working with the Clifton Dance Academy and their theatre arts program.
Mary-Anne Sullivan, Theatre Teaching Artist, has been a teaching since 1996, instructing progressive programs in acting, improvisation, playbuilding, conflict resolution and other theater disciplines in Northern Virginia at various after-school programs. Most recently, Mrs. Sullivan worked for Adventure Theatre from 2007 - 2013, teaching Improvisation and Acting Ensemble at Glen Echo and at Pyle Middle School. In 2008, she conducted a Master Class in Acting for the Washington National Opera Young Singers Institute at Catholic University and taught Acting for WNO's Opera Discovery Camp. In 2006, she directed an improvised original production of Charlotte's Web as the showcase presentation for the Theater Camp at CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop). Mrs. Sullivan has long experience in improvisation, directing an Improv Troupe at Hayfield Secondary School in Fairfax Co. from 1997-2000, creating an anti-substance abuse touring show that performed at pyramid schools. She holds a BFA in Theater from Va. Commonwealth University and continues training, completing a graduate course at Catholic University in "Arts Infusion" designed to help educators integrate arts in their curricula. She acts, directs and designs in area professional and community theaters. She writes plays, awarded Best Original Script for her one-act Zero Balance at VTA festival in 2005, and won Best Director & Best Overall Production for her direction of Bitter Sauce at the NVTA One Act Festival that year. She has received Best Actress & Hair Design nominations with WATCH & ACT. In 2013, WATCH awarded her Best Actress in a Lead Role for her work in "33 Variations." Currently, she directed Blithe Spirit for Prince William Little Theatre in 2014 and will be directing Julius Caesar for PWLT in fall 2015.
4:30 - 6:30 PM - DANCE... HIP HOP, JAZZ, TAP, BALLET (Taught by Gwen Carpenter Gwen who has been dancing since she was 5 years old, taking her first ballet and tap class. She has studied numerous forms of dance including ballet, modern, jazz and tap, hip hop, Irish step, and middle eastern dance (bellydance). She currently performs regularly as a bellydancer in the local area. She has worked as a dance instructor for many years. She has spent the past two years transitioning into and working towards her masters in education at George Mason University. She has worked for the Alexandria City Public Schools for the past three years. She is an experienced and wonderful teacher who has been teaching for Clifton Dance Academy for the past year, receiving the love and devotion from parents and students alike. She is always smiling, has a wonderful attitude and loves teaching dance!
